Since December 2012, Melchsee-Frutt has its new cable car in operation. Carrying passengers from Stöckalp up to Melchsee-Frutt. The replacement of the existing cable car will allow anyone to travel to the resort in a much faster and easier way.
More comfort
There will be thirty 15-passenger cabins that will bring 1'325 people per hour to the top, increasing the overall capacity by 75 percent. The cable car project including the new, weather-protected terminal at the top provides a smooth and comfortable ride to Melchsee-Frutt even in adverse weather conditions. In addition to the construction of the base station, there are plans to build a bus terminal and a three-story car park. The car park offers two covered parking decks and one open deck on top. It guarantees parking for all resort guests staying overnight thanks to the system of allocating parking spaces. Guests can come and go whenever they like and have a parking space available to them.
An enhanced riding experience, shorter travel time and easy access to the cable car rise the attraction for choosing the cable car even during the summer months.
Short distances
At the same time, construction for the new elevator will take place on Melchsee-Frutt and provide easy access from the lake to the village. The elevator will travel 105 vertical feet and it's exit is located just above Hotel Frutt Lodge & Spa. The top platform offers a unique and breathtaking view, adding another great attraction to the resort. The elevator makes it incredibly easy to get from near the lake to the cable car terminal. Part of the project is the new cable car terminal situated in the heart of Melchsee-Frutt. Providing short distances to most hotels and vacation homes or to proceed directly onto the slopes.
Building a strong future
For Melchsee-Frutt the proposed overall project is a big step towards a strong future and to keep a leading position in the market. In offering more comfort, safety and venue to all it's guests it will also help create year-round jobs for employees. The council constituting the cantonal government of Obwalden has acknowledged the high potential of Melchsee-Frutt and declared to focus on Melchsee-Frutt as a priority tourist resort in its 2006-2020 structure plan.
